Quarndon was brought into service on 3-Mar-1987 by the IBA to bring ILR Radio Trent to Derby and the surrounding area. The site height is 140m ASL, and the mast height is approximately 65m. As the mast is located in an enclosed farm field it is not possible to get close to the mast without permission, however a public footpath runs close by affording a very good view.
Originally it provided the 200W AM service on 945kHz and the 600W FM service on 102.8 MHz from the typical IBA mixed polarisation VHF aerials that can be seen at the top of the mast. In 2002, however, the ILR FM transmissions of (the now) RAM FM, were transferred from Quarndon to Drum Hill located about two miles due east. The AM transmissions of (the now) Classic Gold GEM remain at Quarndon, as do the FM aerials which have not been removed.
